NASBLA Operation Drywater and the Boating Under the Influence (BUI) Report and Dashboard were produced in 2019 by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators through a grant funded by the U.S. Coast Guard. A supplement to the report was produced in 2020.
U.S. Coast Guard Recreational Boating Statistics
Every year, the U.S. Coast Guard compiles statistics on reported recreational boating accidents. These statistics are derived from accident reports that are filed by the owners / operators of recreational vessels involved in accidents.
Where Alcohol Use Was The Primary Contributing Factor:
- Alcohol use continues to be the leading known contributing factor in recreational boating deaths in the United States.
- Alcohol use is the leading known contributing factor in fatal boating accidents; where the primary cause was known, it was listed as the leading factor in 18% of deaths.
